Raising a Child with ADHD

ADHD is one of the most common neurodevelopmental issues adoptive parents face. About 40% of kids in the adopted population have been diagnosed with ADHD. This curriculum looks at what exactly ADHD is and the different options for treatment. We also provide a list of tips to help parents raise a happy, successful child with ADHD.

Parents will leave the support group with a better understanding of the following topics.

  • What are the symptoms of ADHD, both positive and negative?
  • To medicate or not to medicate? Is medication safe and effective, and what are the long term issues with it?
  • What are some lifestyle and diet modification that can help manage ADHD?
  • How do you help a child with ADHD focus on tasks and assignments?

*This curriculum includes a video, facilitator guide, and handouts.
